Crawls Sideways, Turns on Its Own
Classic crabs scuttle sideways like the real thing. On sensor models, the crab turns away when it gets close to a wall or a chair leg, so it keeps going without a remote.
Music and Lights
Built-in tunes and bright LEDs give your baby something to see and hear while the crab is on the move. Sound and light options vary by model.
40 Songs and Voice Recording
SAIMAND plush crabs hold 40 songs and record short clips, so your baby can hear your voice, or their own babbling, played back.
Charges by USB
Many crabs have a built-in rechargeable battery, so you are not buying AAs every week. Plug it in between play sessions and keep the cable out of reach.
Made for Tummy Time, Crawling and Toddler Chase Games
6–12 months
Watch it go
During tummy time, set the crab a short distance away and let your baby watch it move. Many babies lift their head and turn toward the sound long before they reach for it. Check the box first: some models are rated from 6 months, others from 12.
12–24 months
Chase it down
Once your baby crawls or walks, the crab becomes something to catch, and the sudden turns are half the fun. Plush crabs add songs to clap along to and a recorder for first words.
2–3 years
Make up games
Older toddlers invent their own rules: guess where it goes next, race it across the room, record a silly message and play it back. They will want to pick the songs, too.
A few ground rules
- Play on the floor only. The obstacle sensor will not stop a fall off a table, bed or stairs, and drops are how claws break.
- Stay with your baby during tummy time, and keep the crab where they can see it without straining.
- Charging is a grown-up job. Unplug the cable before play and never put the crab in the crib.
- Keep the volume at a comfortable level and do not set a playing crab right next to your baby’s ear.
- Stop using the toy if the shell cracks, a part comes loose or the battery gets hot.
A crawling crab is a fun extra, not a crawling coach. It will not make milestones happen sooner. It just gives your baby one more good reason to move.

Getting Started: Setup, Floors and Care
Set up in five steps
- 1Charge it first. Plug the included cable into the charging port. On some plush crabs, the port is on the electronic unit inside the fabric body.
- 2Clear a spot. Open floor, away from stairs, water and piles of toys.
- 3Switch it on. On most models, movement, music and lights start together.
- 4Start at a distance. Let your baby watch first, then move the crab a little closer or farther away.
- 5Try the extras. On models that have them, skip through songs or record a message.
Which floors work best
Classic crabs run best on hardwood, laminate, tile and other hard, flat floors. Thick carpet and shag rugs slow them down or stop them, and long fibers can catch in the legs.
Plush crabs move differently, with more wiggle than crawl, but a smooth floor still works best. For young babies, put a comfy tummy-time mat down and let the crab roam the bare floor right next to it.
Cleaning and care
Plastic crabs: switch off and wipe with a barely damp cloth, paying attention to the legs where dust collects. Keep water out of the charging port and speaker.
Plush crabs: take the electronic unit out before washing a removable cover, and follow the care label. Some covers are surface-clean only. The electronics never go in water or the washer.
Before putting a plush crab back in play, make sure the electronics are seated and the fabric opening is fully closed.
What Parents Say
“This was a gift for my 12-month-old son at first and he was hesitant due to its quick movements and loud noise. However, after a few days, it quickly became his favorite toy. The music is quite loud and you are not able to change the level, but you can learn to tune it out eventually. The crab moves back and forth on its own based on its surroundings so it doesn't get stuck unless a claw gets broken off. My child enjoyed letting it run off a table and this caused the claw to break off after a few runs. As long as it stays on the ground, it is a fun toy for toddlers to enjoy. I bought replacements twice because he loved it so much but he kept making it run off tables once he learned it and that will likely never change so I recommend not letting the toddlers get into that habit or you will constantly buy new ones. The endless amount of fun they get though is kind of worth the price. LOVE it!”

“Good playability good noise level. Good sound quality. Good lighting. Great for somebody who's trying to have tummy time with the newborns and getting them to crawl”
- LMorrow
“I got this for my baby and it’s been a really fun and engaging toy. The moving crab encourages the baby to crawl and follow it, which is great for development. The lights and music keep my baby interested, and it definitely helps with keeping them active during playtime. It moves smoothly and changes direction when it hits something, which makes it more interactive. It’s a simple idea but works really well, especially for babies learning to crawl. My baby enjoys chasing it around. Overall, a great toy if you want something that keeps your baby moving and entertained.”
- DR
“This plush is super soft and even cuter in person! The fabric feels really nice, and the stitching seems well done. The little winking face gives it so much personality, and it’s the perfect size for cuddling or displaying on a bed or shelf. It held its shape after being handled, and the colors are bright and vibrant. Definitely a great gift for kids or anyone who loves cute stuffed animals. Baby plays with it for hours vibrates and mimics your words and sings.”
- Elegant Glow
“This is such a cute toy. Our kid loves it. The voice is soft so it doesn’t get annoying. It moves in corpses. The charging is easily as it is USB C port. It is soft for younger babies to hold.”
- Adam
“Very cute toy! My nephew loves this little crab. It moves, it sings, it mimics. Its a very cute and fun toy. Even the grandparents were playing with it 😂 Its soft with no small parts so its great for babies and toddlers.”

About Crawling Crab
CrawlingCrabToy.com is the home of the Crawling Crab, the sideways-scuttling, music-playing toy that a lot of babies just will not stop chasing. We keep the whole family of crabs in one place, from hard-shell light-up crawlers to soft plush crabs that sing and talk back.
Crawling crabs are made by more than one company. The classic light-up crabs here come from Control Future, the 40-song plush crabs with voice recording come from SAIMAND, and every maker builds its own version with its own features. We spell out those differences so you can pick a crab that fits your child’s age and the way they like to play, instead of guessing from a photo.
We also try to be straight about the limits. Classic crabs need a hard floor. Sensors do not stop falls from a table. Age ratings differ from model to model. A crab will not teach your baby to crawl, but it is a pretty good reason to try.
Our whole idea fits in one line: put a crab on the floor and let your baby do the chasing.
Crawling Crab FAQ
What is a Crawling Crab Toy?
It is an interactive baby toy that moves across the floor and plays music, giving your child something to watch, reach for and crawl after. Classic electronic models scuttle sideways like a real crab, often with colorful LED lights and obstacle-avoidance sensors. Plush versions have a soft fabric body, built-in songs and, on some models, voice recording. All crawling crabs are meant for supervised play, and the right age and features depend on the model.
What age is a Crawling Crab Toy suitable for?
It depends on the model. Some are marketed for babies 6 months and up, while others carry a 12-month minimum, so go by the age rating on the specific product rather than assuming every crab suits an infant. Younger babies usually enjoy watching the crab move during supervised play. Mobile toddlers would rather chase it across the room.
Does a Crawling Crab Toy help babies learn to crawl?
It can encourage movement by giving your baby something interesting to watch and follow. As babies build the strength and coordination to move on their own, many start reaching or crawling toward it. That said, a crawling crab does not teach crawling or guarantee earlier milestones. Plenty of supervised floor time and room to move matter most.
How does the Crawling Crab avoid obstacles?
Selected electronic crabs have sensors that detect objects in front of them. When the crab gets close to a wall or a piece of furniture, it changes direction and keeps going. This works best on flat, open floors. Small objects and unusual surfaces can confuse the sensor, and it does not make the toy safe near stairs or the edge of a table.
What is the difference between a plush Crawling Crab and a plastic Crawling Crab?
Plastic crabs are built for active floor play: fast sideways scuttling, built-in music and, on selected models, LED lights. Plush crabs have a soft fabric body and may include 40 songs, voice recording and dancing or wiggling movement. Plastic models are better for chase games on smooth floors. Plush crabs offer a softer feel and more musical play, depending on the design.
How many songs does the musical Crawling Crab play?
Selected SAIMAND plush crabs have 40 built-in songs, along with movement and a voice recorder. Other crawling crabs have different sound libraries, from a few simple melodies to electronic sound effects. The song count depends on the model, so do not assume every crab has 40.
Can the Crawling Crab record and repeat a baby’s voice?
Yes, selected plush crabs have a built-in recorder that captures short sounds and plays them back through the speaker. You can record a short phrase in your own voice, and toddlers love hearing themselves. Recording length and playback controls vary by model. Classic plastic crabs with lights and obstacle sensors usually do not record.
Does the Crawling Crab work on carpet?
Most hard-shell crabs work best on smooth surfaces like hardwood, tile and laminate, because their motorized legs or wheels need a firm floor to move sideways. Thick carpet and shag rugs can slow the crab down or stop it altogether. Some plush crabs use different movement, but they also do better on a smooth surface. For reliable movement, pick a smooth, level spot.
Is the Crawling Crab rechargeable?
Many crawling crabs have a built-in rechargeable battery and come with a USB charging cable, so there are no disposable batteries to replace. Charging time and battery life vary, and some models may use replaceable batteries instead, so check the product details. Charging should be done by an adult, and the cable should be unplugged before play.
How long does a Crawling Crab Toy run on one charge?
It depends on the model, the battery and which features are on. Some rechargeable electronic crabs give roughly 20–30 minutes of continuous movement per charge, while others run longer or shorter. Music, lights and motor speed all affect battery use. Check each product’s specs for charging and run times.
What colors are available?
Crawling crabs come in orange, blue, pink, green, purple and red, depending on the design and maker. Classic electronic crabs are commonly offered in orange, green, pink and purple. Soft plush versions come in blue, orange, pink and red. Some colors also come with different electronics or an updated design, so compare the specs before you pick a color.
Who makes Crawling Crab Toys?
“Crawling crab toy” is a widely used product name rather than one company’s exclusive brand. Makers such as SAIMAND and Control Future offer their own versions, with different materials, movement, music and extras. CrawlingCrabToy.com brings these styles together in one collection. Because the maker differs from toy to toy, check the brand and specs of each model when you compare.
Is CrawlingCrabToy.com an official Crawling Crab Toy store?
CrawlingCrabToy.com is a dedicated home for crawling crab toys, including moving electronic crabs and musical plush designs for babies and toddlers. Because crawling crabs are made under several brand names, the site name does not mean we own every model or are affiliated with every manufacturer shown.
Are Crawling Crab Toys safe for babies?
Use a crawling crab only when the maker’s age rating and safety instructions fit your child. Stay close, especially during tummy time and early crawling. Check the toy regularly for cracked plastic, loose parts or exposed electronics, keep charging cables away from children, and never put an electronic crab in your baby’s sleep space. Confirm safety certifications and materials for the specific product.
Where can I buy a Crawling Crab Toy?
Crawling crabs are sold through online retailers and toy shops, including Amazon, and you can browse the collection right here on CrawlingCrabToy.com. Prices depend on the maker, design and features. Basic electronic crabs usually run about $15–$25, and plush musical crabs with voice recording are typically around $20–$30. Compare colors, age ratings, charging and features before you buy.
